What will I learn?
The BA course in English and American Studies deals with the language, cultures and literature of English-speaking countries and their varying dynamic developments. Students hone their language skills in both oral and written production (target level C2). They will be qualified to adequately describe and analyse diverse current and historic manifestations of the English language in various texts (linguistics). Moreover, they gain profound knowledge of the literary history, periods and movements, genres, authors and works of anglophone countries (literary studies). Last but not least, the BA course imparts a refined cultural knowledge of interesting cultural phenomena and the countries and people of the English-speaking world (cultural studies).

The BA course in English and American Studies at the University of Salzburg is distinguished by its outstanding student-to-staff ratio and offers excellent teaching (awarded with the Excellence in Teaching Award of the University of Salzburg) in the fields of linguistics, literary studies, Fachdidaktik and language acquisition. Many of the department’s lecturers are native speakers of English from the United States and Great Britain. We greatly emphasize the importance of combining current research with teaching and strive for practical relevance, e.g. by cooperating with cultural institutions in Salzburg, a city world-famous for its culture and history.
