Hans-Stegbuchner-Prize 2015

On 14 January 2016, the Hans Stegbuchner Prize was awarded during a ceremony at the Department of Mathematics.The 2015 Hans Stegbuchner Prize was awarded to Markus Hittmeir, MSc, for his thesis entitled ‘Primality tests and factoring methods’, supervised by Associate Professor Dr Peter Hellekalek, and to Georg Zimmermann, MSc, for his thesis entitled ‘Basic theory and limitations of its applicability to real-life data’, supervised by Dean Associate Professor Dr Arne Bathke.Both prizewinners were able to convince the large audience of the remarkable quality of their work with a short presentation.Afterwards, Vice-Rector Dr Fatima Ferreira-Briza, Head of the Department of Mathematics Dr Andreas Schröder, who hosted the ceremony, and Director Thomas Nussbaumer from the Raiffeisenverband Salzburg officially awarded this year’s Hans Stegbuchner Prize.Dr Birgit Stegbuchner, the daughter of Dr Hans Stegbuchner, also congratulated the award winners on their outstanding achievements.The very enjoyable and successful ceremony ended with a small buffet in the foyer of the Department of Mathematics.
