Welcome to the Department of Political Science! The Department offers both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree program in Political Science and also participates in several interdisciplinary degree programs, namely the BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics, the Joint-MA Political Science – Integration & Governance (PoSIG), and the MA European Union Studies. In research, the department is an internationally leading institute, which is reflected in its excellent performance in global rankings. Political Science in Salzburg

The Department of Political Science is a central pillar of social science research and teaching at the University of Salzburg. It is characterized by a high degree of internationalization in teaching and research. This is reflected in an extensive range of courses taught in English (with the MA and PhD programmes fully taught in English), numerous opportunities for international student exchange, and academic staff’s integration in international collaborations.

Our aim is to meet the highest international standards in the areas of teaching, methodology, and research. At the same time, the staff of the department are also aware of their importance for regional knowledge transfer and are cooperation partners for public and private regional institutions, initiatives, and projects.

The department also closely cooperates with the Salzburg Center of European Union Studies (SCEUS) – not least through the SCEUS doctoral programs – and the Salzburg Center for Intersectional Research (ATHENA).
