Marilyn Poon earned her undergraduate degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder in the USA. She completed her masters studies in Organization Studies at the University of Innsbruck (UIBK), in 2017. From 2018 to 2022, she was a university assistant in the department of Organization Studies at the Institut of Organization and learning at UIBK. She matriculated with her doctorate degree in Management in 2023. The title of her dissertation is “Voices of dissent and the textualizing techniques of platform technologies – The communicative constitution of a social movement”.  She served as a postdoc researcher/lecturer in the department of Human Resource Management (HRM) and Employment Relations at UIBK from 2023 to 2024, and was also an external lecturer at the Management Center Innsbruck in 2024.
She joined the HRM group here in Salzburg from the beginning of 2025, as a post-doctoral researcher. Her main research focus is on the digital condition and its impact on organizational phenomena. In her cummulative dissertation, she applied Communication as Constitutive of Organizing (CCO) sensibilities to understand the role of social media platforms in social movement organizing. Currently, she is a post-doctoral researcher in the Hans-Böckler Stiftung funded interdisciplinary project, “Wer macht gute Arbeit?” [Who creates good/decent work?]. With an embedded case study in an automotive supply chain, this project aim is to understand the constellation of actors and their interaction in creating decent work.
