Ermela Gianna is currently working on representation in gender-related issues and policies. She has been a member of the SCEUS Doctoral College since November 2020. Her dissertation explores the European Parliament’s role in the economic governance of the EU during the Covid-19 crisis, examining its interactions with other EU institutions, as well as its internal dynamics and accountability mechanisms.

With research interests spanning EU institutions, economic governance, gender equality, and representation, Ermela holds an MA in European Union Studies from the University of Salzburg and a BSc in Statistics and Economics from Piraeus University of Economics in Athens. Fluent in five languages, she brings a diverse skill set to her academic pursuits.

Prior to pursuing her PhD, Ermela gained valuable experience in the private sector, specializing in marketing within the life insurance industry. She also served as a Shuman Trainee in the European Parliament and later worked as a Research Assistant at Panteion University in Athens, as well as an MP Assistant and Policy Advisor in the Greek Parliament.
