Seminar in Personality Psychology and Differential Psychology: Do nice guys finish last? The influence of prosocial personality
The seminar investigates the impact of prosocial personality on a range of life outcomes and on social interaction. In particular, we will put the folk wisdom „nice guys finish last“ to the test. To this end, we will jointly work on the most recent psychology literature on the topic.
Previous Knowledge Expected: Students have basic knowledge of personality psychology and research methods. Moreover, students can comprehend scientific papers.
Objective (Expected Results of Study and Acquired Competencies): After completing the seminar, students will be able to answer the question of how a prosocial personality impacts life outcomes. Students can moreover find scientific literature based on reference information and retrieve additional related research (i.e., conduct a literature search) and connect this new research to the existing literature. As a global competency, students’ ability to participate in a science-based discourse will be strengthened.

E-learning sync: This blended-learning seminar will use online as well as in-person sessions. Students will acquire knowledge during online sessions and we will jointly practice applying this knowledge to cases, within a „flipped classroom“ framework. Methods inputs will prepare students to work independently.

Intercultural Teams
Lecture description: In this lecture/seminar, we will analyze how groups and teams attain their goals in intercultural and political contexts. To this end, we will analyze how group decision processes can increase the polarization in society, how attribution processes can impact the evaluation of deviant group members, and how diverse teams can forge a common identity. We will work on current literature on these topics.
Previous Knowledge Expected: Students know the basics in social psychology, work- and organizational psychology, and research methods. They can read and understand scientific texts.
Objective (Expected Results of Study and Acquired Competencies): Students develop a basic understanding of goal pursuit in groups and teams. They can apply this knowledge to current topics regarding teams in organizations and the political discourse in society. They know some current literature on these topics. Moreover, students can find literature and evaluate its meaning in relation to existing work. As a meta-competency, students improve their ability to lead a science-based discourse on current issues.
