Information on the reception of Ukrainian refugees
Unlike other refugees, refugees from Ukraine do NOT (and should not) have to apply for asylum and can therefore be housed from private parties. They are free to choose in which province they want to live and they have free access to the labour market. Until the persons concerned have found a job, Ukrainian refugees will also receive appropriate basic support (health insurance, support with living costs). Concrete information regarding the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Austria will follow shortly according to the official ordinance.
What does someone who wants to provide accommodation need to know?
- They must register (if they have not already registered with an arrival centre) with the BBU ( Federal Agency for Reception and Support Services).
- There is a BBU hotline with Ukrainian speaking counsellors available daily from 6am to 2pm (phone number: 01 2676 870 9460). For basic provisions, as it has been handled so far, foresees e.g. 240,00 € per month for food plus 120,00 € for rent.
- The prerequisite is that there is a tenancy agreement for at least this amount. Whether this regulation also applies to Ukrainian persons affected will only be determined after the ordinance has been issued.
Where can you register if you want to offer refugees a place to stay?
- The BBU networks private providers in the Nachbarschaftsquartiere (“Neighbourhood accomodation”) scheme:
- Ukrainian refugees looking for accommodation can call the BBU hotline (phone number: 01 2676 870 9460).
- More information and contact details are available through the Asylkoordination
