Reinhard Bachleitner was was Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology at the University of Salzburg with a focus on empirical methods and methodology as well as the sociology of tourism until his retirement. He was head of this department from 1994-2007.
He studied sociology, education, psychology (doctorate), geography, sports science (master’s degree).Habilitation with a topic on the attitude-behaviour relation.
Research interests are in the field of basic research for data collection methods (Die Befragung im Kontext von Raum und Zeit, VS Verlag) and in the field of art & cultural tourism (Immaterielles Welterbe und die Theorie der Erinnerung, Studienverlag). Current research projects deal with inter- and transcultural survey research (together with GESIS/Mannheim) and social and cultural societal change through tourism (together with FH Salzburg-Urstein).
He was managing editor of the Journal of Tourism Studies and co-editor of two social science series on tourism.
The regional development project Life 2014 – a cooperation with the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna and the University of Salzburg – was awarded the 2007 Environmental Prize of the Austrian Society for Environment and Technology (ÖGUT).
