Application & Nomination by Home University

A prerequisite for an Erasmus+/SEMP exchange at Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) is that your home university has concluded a valid Erasmus/SEMP agreement with us. Within the framework of this agreement, a certain number of placements in Salzburg has been agreed upon. These placements are managed and allocated by your home university. Students who would like to study at the University of Salzburg within the Erasmus+ or the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) are required to apply at their home university to get selected. After successful application, the sending university’s responsible coordinator is nominating the selected student to the International Relations Office.

NEW Nomination Deadlines for Partner Offices apply from the upcoming academic year 2024/2025:

  • May 15 for the following winter semester/academic year
  • October 15 for the following summer semester

PLUS Academic Calendar

Acceptance & first steps

First, please make sure that you have been nominated by your university and that the nomination was sent to the University of Salzburg, International Office (Ms. Julia Stallinger). This can be done by your coordinator or the International Office. The Erasmus+/SEMP applicant is guaranteed acceptance to the University of Salzburg as long as they fulfil application requirements and are nominated within the fixed quota and according to the available Erasmus+/SEMP funding. Once the nomination process is completed, Erasmus/SEMP students will receive a registration link to our online platform Mobility Online to set up an account and continue their application process.

If you are participating in an Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Studies, you will be asked to submit the following documents to our online platform:

  • Copy of valid ID-card (front & back) / passport
  • Passport photo
  • Optional (if you wish to be enrolled into an MA or higher degree): Copy of BA/MA Certificate (German or English) or Diploma Supplement, if applicable
  • Optional: Proof of Language Skills

If you are participating in an Erasmus+ Internship, the following documents are required for application prior by e-mail:

  • Entry Form
  • Copy of valid ID-card (front & back) / passport
  • Copy of BA/MA Certificate (German or English) or Diploma Supplement, if applicable

PLUS Academic Guidance

All Erasmus+/SEMP partner universities have an academic coordinator at the University of Salzburg department. These academic programme coordinators are also available and responsible to advise students on academic matters (e.g. Learning Agreements). Students are welcome to contact the respective academic programme coordinators with questions before (and during) their stay with us. Your academic coordinator will be assigned to you via Mobility Online. In order to be assigned a coordinator, you are first required to complete all application data and upload all requested documentation. Upon the International Office double-checking the completeness of all required documentation, you will receive more information about your stay and the e-mail address to your respective coordinator.

Further important forms and documents can be found on the respective website. For administrative questions, please refer to the respective administrative coordinators in the International Office (Ms. Julia Stallinger for all Erasmus+ KA131 and KA171 Incoming students, except for students coming within the CIVIS umbrella: Ms. Egzona Krasniqi).

The PLUSonline Course Catalogue

enPLUSonlineLoginTo find courses offered at the University of Salzburg, students refer to the  PLUSonline student management service platform course catalogue. You and your home coordinators decide which courses you would like to choose based on your study plan at home. We do not prescribe any specific courses or number of ECTS for our incoming Erasmus+/SEMP students. However: Please make sure to complete at least 3 ECTS per started month of mobility to be eligible for your Erasmus+ grant! In principle, you can choose courses at all faculties and departments as long as you meet the subject and language requirements, independently of which degree you are enrolled in.

Note: At PLUS, we offer a variety of course types, each having its own eligibility and registration requirements: Lectures (VO) do not have participation limits and close with a final exam. Registration is possible throughout the entire semester. Seminars (SE), Tutorials (UE, VU), Excursions (EX), etc. have a limited number of participants, registration therefore has to be done very quickly. To pass seminars, etc. regular participation during the semester and final papers are required.

Whether you can attend a course only becomes clear at the beginning of the semester – after the binding course registration. The Learning Agreement before the mobility contains your first course selection. The University of Salzburg recommends every incoming exchange student to have German language competence at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Even though this is not a strict requirement, all potential students should be aware that the primary language used for study programmes’ coursework at the University of Salzburg – especially on BA-level – is German. If you have no prior knowledge of German, you will have to make sure to find enough English taught courses while studying at PLUS to fulfil the home university’s academic requirements. It is also possible to search for  courses taught in English with PLUSonline using the filter “language of instruction ENGLISH”. Navigating through PLUSonline to search for courses is possible without login! Press CONTINUE WITHOUT LOGIN.

Extra-Curricular Courses

There are various courses, i.e.German Language Courses, at the University of Salzburg that are offered independent of study programmes. These courses are designed to improve a student’s proficiencies and are offered as an additional and optional service and are not part of degree programmes. Consequently, participation in these courses requires service fees depending on the weekly workload! Students can find these courses in PLUSonline under DEGREE STUDIES > “other study > e.g. inter-faculty teaching (= FAKULTÄTSÜBERGREIFENDE LEHRE”) . Of course, students also receive ECTS for these courses. However, it is the decision of your home university whether such courses are part of the Learning Agreement and whether these ECTS can be credited at home. Students find our credit conversion table in FORMS & DOCUMENTS.

The Learning Agreement before the mobility

If exchange students need to fill in the Learning Agreement before mobility early and can’t yet find courses of the coming academic year published in PLUSonline, we always suggest future students to consult the current course catalogue to draft a valid document. The courses are always offered similarly every academic year; only special topics might change, but the courses in general will be – more or less – the same. Erasmus students have to send their Learning Agreements before the mobility to the respective academic coordinator in Salzburg for signature. There is no guaranteed participation for courses filled-in the Learning Agreement before completed enrolment. A definitive course registration is possible only after full enrolment at Salzburg University! NOTE: If your home university exchanges Learning Agreements digitally using an online platfform, your LA will be automatically sent to our university via EWP.

The Learning Agreement can be changed after completed personal registration and final course selection. Students and coordinators should be aware that changes to the initial Learning Agreement might be possible. To make changes, students use the Learning Agreement: during the mobility. Find detailed notes on our webpage DURING your stay!

Other Important Steps to think about

*The Austrian Student Union Fee
There are no tuition fees for participants in exchange mobility programs**. Exchange students only have to pay – like all other students in Austria – the mandatory Austrian Student Union Fee per semester to complete the enrolment. Austrian Student Union members automatically benefit of an accident and liability insurance valid for study purpose (see Insurance & Health).
** Studying within special exchange programmes, i.e. EMJD DC-Lead, EMJD Copernicus, etc. require tuition fees from self-paying participants.
