Exlibris Collection
Exlibris (Latin for “from books”) have served to mark book ownership since their invention in the late 15th century. The collection of bookplates at the University Library of Salzburg can be divided into two groups: The ownership marks that are still in the books (in situ), and the bookplates that have been detached from their bearer. Previous owners and artists of the bookplates in situ can be researched via the “advanced search” in UBsearch. The collection of the detached bookplates, comprising about 380 pieces, was processed in the context of a training course at the University Library and can be accessed under the link „Detached Exlibris“.
