What will I learn?
The MA degree course in Language Sciences / Specialization in Linguistics (General and Diachronic Linguistics) prepares students for a future career as general and historical linguists and is orientated towards high-quality standards of scientific and practical education and work. General and diachronic linguistics examine the language-theoretic and language-historic core disciplines. In courses dealing with theory, students learn about internationally common models of synchronic and diachronic linguistics. Focuses will be on grammar research, data analysis and theoretical modelling. On the practical side, students will learn about the gathering of linguistic data and the linguistic interpretation of texts. Students shall also become familiar with techniques and areas of knowledge of Indo-European linguistics, variational linguistics, and linguistic typology. Graduates from the MA degree course specializing in linguistics (General and Diachronic Linguistics) will be qualified to work independently in language-theoretic and language-historic fields.
