Registration open for the first CIVIS Master’s programme TRACEE

CIVIS, a European Civic University Alliance, has launched a groundbreaking Master’s programme designed to train future leaders to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues, including climate change, energy transitions, and environmental crises. The Master’s Programme in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment and Energy (TRACEE) aims to educate forward-thinking professionals capable of breaking disciplinary boundaries and collaborating on transformative solutions.

Choose your own path: six study tracks available

Students will have the opportunity to study at various CIVIS universities, experiencing diverse academic cultures and building international networks. Co-taught by leading academics from all CIVIS universities and coordinated by Stockholm University, the programme equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle global issues and drive real-world impact.

The TRACEE programme aims to provide students with hands-on training to understand and solve complex problems related to climate, energy, and environmental systems. The curriculum integrates natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and law, offering a holistic approach to creating sustainable solutions.

After an obligatory first semester at Stockholm University, in which students from all disciplines get a basic introduction to climate change, energy transition and environmental degradation from different disciplines, students can choose between six Study Tracks. The University of Salzburg participates in two specialised study tracks open to students from all backgrounds. The „Environmental Humanities and Law“ Study Track, co-taught with the University of Bucharest, provides students with in-depth knowledge of the disciplines involved in developing, adopting, and implementing profound and lasting solutions to climate change, energy transition and environmental problems. The Study Track „Transdisciplinary Approaches to Climate Change“, co-taught with the Université Libre de Bruxelles, provides students with an in-depth understanding of underlying scientific issues and societal needs to develop climate warming solutions. Students will become familiar with the political, economic, legal, societal, ethical and communication challenges that must be taken into account for developing lasting and sustainable solutions. The aim is to educate graduates who can facilitate communication between the different disciplines involved in developing solutions. They will be able to speak different scientific languages and can explain the issues studied, methods used, and solutions offered by the different disciplines, but also understand the limits of a discipline to contribute to lasting solutions to climate change, energy transition and environmental problems.

Registrations for the Master’s Programme in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment, and Energy are now open. Are you ready to take on this challenge and become a leader in building a sustainable future? Visit the course page on the  Stockholm University website to apply.
