Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Michaela Rückl
Prof. Dr. Michaela Rückl (born 1963 in Radstadt) is an Associate Professor for the Didactics of Romance Languages at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and has been Vice Rector for Education and Student Experience since October 2024. Her research and teaching focuses on foreign language acquisition in a multilingual and multicultural context as well as on the evidence-based development of learning media, teaching concepts and curricula, with a focus on integrative approaches, specialised languages and aspects of digital transformation. She also specialises in university didactics, in particular mentoring concepts in teacher training.
She completed a teacher training programme in English, French (1985) and Italian (1990) as well as a university course in tourism and congress management (1983) at the PLUS. She went on to complete her doctorate in English and Romance linguistics in 1990. Rückl worked as a language teacher from 1986-2012 . Since 2000, she has been teaching and researching at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, where she launched the development of cross-language learning media, which have been used to produce several textbooks. Her R&D projects are characterised by the active involvement of students and teachers – an approach for which she has received several awards. The results of her habilitation project on developing multilingual and target language skills (2019) also have practical relevance and have been incorporated into the new curriculum for Austrian business academies.
She is involved in European projects to strengthen language diversity in schools and teacher training, acts as a consultant for international journals and is active in numerous academic committees and professional associations. The promotion of early career researchers is a matter of great importance to her. As Vice-Rector for Education and Student Experience, Michaela Rückl is responsible for the Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral and postgraduate programmes as well as exchange programmes to increase student mobility at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg.
