Vice-Rector Dr. Barbara Romauer

Dr. Barbara Romauer was born in Salzburg in 1968. After graduating from the Salzburg Commercial College in 1987, she studied Business Education and Business Administration in Linz. In 1992, she completed both degrees with a Master of Social and Economic Sciences.

From 1993 to 1998, Romauer was a university assistant at the Institute for Auditing, Trusts and Accounting at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). In July 1995, she received her doctorate in Social and Economic Sciences. She later worked in the private sector as Head of Finance and Accounting at the Gruber & Kaja Group in Traun. In 2007, she was recruited by the international pharmaceutical group Nycomed. After just one year, Romauer was appointed Director of Finance and Administration. During her time as CFO of the Nycomed Group in Austria, she also took over the management of Nycomed Osteuropa Marketing Service GmbH and later Nycomed Holding GmbH.

In 2011, Barbara Romauer was appointed Vice Rector for Finance at the JKU. After two terms of office in Linz, she joined the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in 2019. At the PLUS, she was Vice Rector for Finance and Resources under Rector Lehnert from 2019 to 2023. Atfer completing a full term, Romauer was appointed Vice Rector for Finance and Infrastructure at the University of Leoben. The University of Salzburg was able to win Barbara Romauer back, and she will be working for both universities in October and November 2024. From December 2024, Romauer will then work full-time for Salzburg again.

As Vice-Rector for Finance and Resources at PLUS, she is responsible for all financial management, accounting, controlling (including third-party funding controlling), financial and budget management, financial reporting, investment management, procurement, general business services and the university’s building infrastructure, as well as internal auditing, the USI and ULSZ Rif. Together with the Rector and the Vice-Rector for Human Resources, she is responsible for decisions on changes to the staffing plan.
