Vice-Rector Dr. Barbara Romauer
Dr. Barbara Romauer was born in Salzburg in 1968. After graduating from the Salzburg Commercial College in 1987, she studied Business Education and Business Administration in Linz. In 1992, she completed both degrees with a Master of Social and Economic Sciences.
From 1993 to 1998, Romauer was a university assistant at the Institute for Auditing, Trusts and Accounting at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). In July 1995, she received her doctorate in Social and Economic Sciences. Romauer later worked in the private sector as Head of Finance and Accounting at the Gruber & Kaja Group in Traun. In 2007, she was recruited by the international pharmaceutical group Nycomed. After just one year, Romauer was appointed Director of Finance and Administration. During her time as CFO of the Nycomed Group in Austria, she also took over the management of Nycomed Osteuropa Marketing Service GmbH and later Nycomed Holding GmbH.
In 2011, Barbara Romauer was appointed Vice Rector for Finance at the JKU. After two terms of office in Linz, she joined the University of Salzburg in 2019. Romauer was appointed Vice Rector for Finance and Resources under Rector Lehnert from 2019 to 2023. After completing a full term in office, Romauer was appointed Vice Rector for Finance and Infrastructure at the University of Leoben. The University of Salzburg was able to win back Barbara Romauer, and after splitting her time between Leoben and Salzburg, Romauer resumed her full-time role as Vice-Rector for Finance and Resources from December 2024.
As Vice-Rector for Finance and Resources at the University of Salzburg, she is responsible for all financial management, accounting, planning and analysis (including third-party funding), reporting, investment management, procurement, general business services and the university’s building infrastructure, as well as internal auditing, the University Sports Institute (USI) and the University and State Sports Centre (ULSZ) in Rif. Together with the Rector and the Vice-Rector for Human Resources, she is responsible for decisions on changes to the staffing plan.
