Rector

Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr. Bernhard Fügenschuh 

Born in Innsbruck, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Fügenschuh (*1962) studied earth sciences at the University of Innsbruck and completed his doctorate at ETH Zurich. He spent the next ten years working as a post-doctoral researcher and then as a senior assistant at the University of Basel, where he also completed his habilitation. In 2006, he accepted a professorship in structural geology and geodynamics at the University of Innsbruck. He has also held various positions in ‘university self-administration’, including Head of Institute, member of the Senate and Dean of the Faculty of Geo and Atmospheric Sciences. He has been Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs since 2016 and has always been committed to excellent educational standards and innovative teaching methods. He was also Chairman of the Teaching Forum of the Austrian University Conference. He has held the position of Rector at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg since 1 October 2024. Bernhard Fügenschuh is married and has three children.
