What will I learn?

Geography and Economy equals learning by heart the world’s capitals, longest rivers and highest mountains? Wrong! This subject is more about issues such as: why are the world’s resources and wealth distributed unequally, and what has this to do with people’s standard of living? How do human beings and the environment interact with each other? How can we explain economic cycles? And what is the role of spatial issues for the economy and society? In the teacher training programme for the subject of Geography and Economy, students acquire fundamental competences in science and teaching methodology so that they can, for example, understand these processes and work on them together with their pupils. Students learn about essential subject-specific concepts and current research findings from the basic disciplines of Geography and Economy, and examine the relations between society, economy and the environment. Here, the connection between everyday problems and subject-specific concepts is central. Moreover, students get to know crucial subject-specific methods from the fields of scientific and social-scientific Geography, Economy and Geomedia, so that they can apply them problem-oriented in their teaching. Theoretical and methodological skills will be practically applied in project events. The subject-specific contents students need to learn are orientated towards established educational and learning objectives and will be tested and accompanied during teaching practices.

Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree teacher training programme for the subject of Geography and Economy are qualified to teach the subject of Geography and Economy at secondary schools level I (NMS, HS, PTS, AHS elementary level).
