Beat Fux is Professor of Comparative Social Structure Analysis in the Department Sociology and Cultural Science of the Division of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Salzburg, Austria. He received his degrees from the University of Zurich (lic. phil (MA equivalent) 1984, PhD 1991, habilitation 2001). He was a research fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (1994-1995), served as editor-in-chief of the Swiss Journal of Sociology (2000-2006), as lecturer at the University of Zurich, the Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) in Zurich, and the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden and held several interim and guest professorships. Fux has published about 15 monographies as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles and book-chapters. Since 1991, he has been directing an independent research institute conducting research in the fields of population studies, family and household demography, social structure and value research and social welfare. His main area of work is oriented at European comparative and interdisciplinary perspective.
