Melina Fischer has been a research assistant at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography since March 2024. She is enrolled in a doctoral program within the field of migration and social mobilities studies, with her research focusing on the humanitarian borderscape. Her interdisciplinary academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Social Sciences from the University of Erfurt in Germany. She also holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology with a focus on sociocultural transformation from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, which she pursued with a full scholarship from the DAAD.

Her research interests encompass intersectionality, critical whiteness studies, decolonial studies, ethnography, and critical development studies.
