Dr. Gernot Posselt received an EMBO short term fellowship for his research visit to the Max-Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin. Gernot worked in the lab of Prof. Thomas F. Meyer and conducted H. pylori infection experiments in primary human gastric organoid cultures. Organoids have recently been established as a new infection model for H. pylori which closely resembles the situation in vivo. The main aim of the research visit was to clarify the role of c-Abl in gastric organoid cultures and to transfer this new cell culture technology to our lab in Salzburg.

Bianca Chichirau received the OEGMBT Best Poster Award 2017 for her poster presentation “c-Abl threonine phosphorylation is a decisive switch between cell migration and apoptosis in Helicobacter pylori-associated pathogenesis”.
Well done!

For her Master thesis in the field of natural sciences, Maria Österbauer was awarded the Marie-Andessner prize.
Maria Österbauer did her Master thesis in the lab of Prof. Dr. Silja Wessler at the University of Salzburg from October 2013 to May 2014. She now joined the FWF PhD program “Nanocell” at the JKU Linz.
Congratulation!

Maria Österbauer was awarded the AK Wissenschaftspreis 2014 for her diploma thesis „Analysis of the tyrosine kinase c-Abl and its interaction partners in Helicobacter pylori infected cells“. Maria Österbauer received the award in the category „Zukunftsthema bzw. technisch-naturwissenschaftliches Thema“ for the investigation of the role of the non-receptor tyrosine kinase c-Abl in Helicobacter pylori infected cells.
Maria Österbauer did her Master thesis in the lab of Prof. Dr. Silja Wessler at the University of Salzburg from October 2013 to May 2014. She now joined the FWF PhD program “Nanocell” at the JKU Linz. We are proud to congratulate Maria and wish all the best for her future career!

Dr. Benjamin Hoy received the dissertation award 2013 of the DGHM (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hygiene und Mikrobiologie)
Dr. Hoy received the award for his PhD thesis on the discovery of novel functions of the serine protease HtrA secreted by the human pathogen and class I carcinogen Helicobacter pylori that directly targets the cell adhesion protein and tumor suppressor E-cadherin on gastric epithelial cells.
Benjamin Hoy started his PhD thesis „Helicobacter pylori-secreted HtrA cleaves E-cadherin – Biochemical characterization, inhibitor screen and implications for gastrointestinal infections“ in the research group of Prof. Dr. Silja Wessler at the Paul-Ehrlich Institute in Langen (Germany) in 2009 and continued his research at the University of Salzburg from 2010 to 2012. This work was supported by the Paul-Ehrlich Institute.
Congratulation!
