Research: I use electrophysiological methods (M/EEG) to understand how our brain processes acoustic stimuli into meaningful representations (e.g. speech) and which factors influence this ability, especially in challenging listening situations (“cocktail party” situations). Findings in this area have implications for understanding hearing after hearing loss or speech rehabilitation after cochlear implantation. In this context, I am particularly concerned with the question of which perceptually relevant mental states can be made measurable for rehabilitation success after implantation and can be used for improved speech understanding with cochlear implants.
