Gemma Mateo is a Senior Scientist at the Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg. She currently works on the GEOTRADE project, which is funded by the European Research Council (2024-2029). She received her PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2004. Before coming to Salzburg, she was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute. As a postdoctoral researcher, she also worked at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research and University College Dublin. Her research focuses on questions of international relations, European integration, and interest group politics. Among other things, she has published articles in Comparative Political Studies, the European Journal of Political Research, European Union Politics, Interest Groups & Advocacy, and the Journal of Common Market Studies. She has also co-edited a special issue of the Journal of European Public Policy on negotiations in the EU. The book “Insiders versus Outsiders: Interest Group Politics in Multilevel Europe,” which she co-authored, was published by Oxford University Press in 2016.
