Welcome to the Philosophy Department in the Faculty of Social Sciences!
Since the 1970’s our department has distinguished itself through its emphasis on formal methods and strong ties to empirical science. Our strengths have grown to include not only philosophy of science and logic but also philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, practical philosophy and philosophy didactics. In all of these areas we seek to define and solve problems. In all of these areas we conduct original research that is relevant to empirical science or social issues.
Our interdisciplinary emphasis is also reflected in our bachelor’s programs. In addition to offering a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, we collaborate with colleagues in economics and political science in offering a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics, and we collaborate with colleagues in psychology in offering a teaching degree program in philosophy and psychology. From the Fall of 2021 we will add a teaching degree program in ethics.
We are a very international department, with faculty from five countries, where scholars from many lands come to conduct their research. Our master’s program taught in English attracts students from all over the world.
