University of California, Irvine
The Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences has closely collaborated with the University of California, Irvine since 1975. A core part of this collaboration is an exchange programme. This programme enables faculty members as well as students from Salzburg to spend some time (research or teaching) at the Department of Philosophy or Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at UCI (for a period of three months up to a year). In return, faculty members and students from Irvine visit Salzburg. In the context of this collaboration there are also regular joint activities, e.g. conferences and workshops in Salzburg and Irvine, such as the Salzburg-Irvine-Munich workshop series. In addition to faculty members, this exchange programme is primarily aimed at doctoral students. They not only profit from establishing research contacts but usually also teach a course. Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy at the LMU Munich
A major collaboration partner is the Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy at the LMU Munich. Many joint activities are planned (with Munich being easily reachable by train from Salzburg).For instance, there is a Salzburg-Irvine-Munich-workshop series.
Irvine-london-Munich-PoliMi-Salzburg Network
The Irvine-London-Munich-PoliMi-Salzburg network in philosophy and foundations of physics aims at fostering the collaboration between faculty, researchers and students based in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of California Irvine, the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the Department of Mathematics and the META group at the Politecnico di Milano, and the Department of Philosophy at the University of Salzburg.
The activities of the network include the circulation of scholars among the four schools, as well as the organization of regular workshops on dedicated topics and an annual international conference for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Throughout the joint application for external funding it also promotes the career development of young researchers coming from all around the world.
The local coordinators are Prof. James Weatherall in Irvine, Bryan Roberts in London, Eric Curiel in Munich, Prof. Giovanni Valente in Milan, and Prof. Charlotte Werndl in Salzburg.
London School of Economics
Charlotte Werndl is a Visiting Professor at the Centre of Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences at the London School of Economics and Political Science. With her arrival a new collaboration was set up with this institution. A core part of this collaboration is an exchange programme between Salzburg and the Centre of Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences. This programme enables doctoral students from the Department of Philosophy in Salzburg to spend some time (research or teaching) at the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences and the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method (for a period of three months up to a year). In return, doctoral students from the LSE visit Salzburg. Excellent Englishskills are a requirement for this programme. In the context of this collaboration other joint activities such as workshops and conferences are also planned.
