The doctoral program in philosophy at the Faculty of Catholic Theology serves the purpose of training and promoting young scholars in order to establish independent philosophizing in terms of methods, content and questions at such a high level that they are able to contribute to the further development of philosophy through independent research in a philosophical discipline while producing new research results. Doctoral graduates possess a historically grounded systematic understanding of philosophy, understand how to apply the methods of philosophical research, and have a comprehensive and profound knowledge of the literature in their field of research. By presenting independent, innovative scholarly work, they make a significant contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the question under consideration.
