Environmental management
Our environmental management systems (EMAS & ISO 14001) are management systems that include the organisational structure, responsibilities, behaviours, formal procedures, processes and means for establishing and implementing our environmental mission.
Paris Lodron University Salzburg has been certified according to both environmental management systems EMAS and ISO 14001 since 2016. The scope of application is continuously being expanded. ISO 14001 is an international standard and EMAS is an EU regulation.
EMAS stands for Eco Management and Audit Scheme and is an instrument developed by the European Communities in 1993 for companies that want to improve their environmental performance. The current legal basis is Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009, which came into force on 11 January 2010. The structure of an environmental management system (EMS) and the processes have also corresponded to ISO 14001 for EMAS since 2001.
In 2017, the latest amendment to the EMAS III Regulation was passed, which, just like the ISO 14001:2015 amendment, calls for greater involvement of all stakeholders.
However, EMAS goes beyond a pure management system.
EMAS is performance-oriented!
Paris Lodron University Salzburg is obliged to prepare an annual environmental statement in which it presents the relevant activities and data on the environment, such as resource and energy consumption, emissions, waste, etc. in detail.
