Abstract:
Birch pollen allergic individuals often also suffer from adverse reactions after the ingestion of apple and hazelnuts. Here, we successfully designed and characterized a novel hybrid protein (MBC4) with reduced allergenicity and retained immunogenicity for the combined treatment of pollen and concomitant food allergies. Furthermore, MBC4 was able to induce IgG antibodies with blocking activity, which are considered a hallmark in allergen immunotherapy.
