STAT6-dependent and -independent mechanisms in Th2 polarization
Elisabeth Maier, Albert Duschl and Jutta Horejs-Hoeck

Abstract:
Th2 cells are crucial in the defense against parasites, but are also key mediators of allergic disorders. They were first described more than 25 years ago. Yet, the development of these cells is still intensely discussed. For a long time the only pathway known to drive Th2 development was the IL-4/STAT6 signaling pathway. Lately other signaling pathways were found to contribute to Th2 development. This article gives an overview on these and their associations to IL-4-mediated Th2-differentiation.
