Abstract:
Severe allergic reactions to peaches are triggered by the non-specific lipid transfer protein (LTP) Pru p 3. Within the EU-funded project FAST, we designed hypoallergenic variants of Pru p 3 for treatment of LTP-related food allergies. One of the candidate molecules (Pru p 3 proline variant) proved to be strongly hypoallergenic when using patients’ sera in ELISA and mediator release assays. In contrast to previously generated Pru p 3 mutants, our molecule remained structurally stable and immunogenic thus representing a promising candidate for peach allergen immunotherapy.
