Mark Weiner’s lecture ‘To save a stranger, first love your home – Reflections on The Volunteers’ will explore the philosophical and historical background of volunteerism in mountain rescue organizations. His latest film project ‘The Volunteers’ highlights the remarkable connection between two mountain rescue organizations – one near Seattle, Washington, and the other in Tyrol, Austria.

Volunteering in Austrian civil protection

Assistant Professor Dr Marcus Hanke will then take a closer look at the role of volunteering in Austrian civil protection and underline the importance of volunteering for social cohesion.

The film will be screened at DAS KINO on 13 November at 7 pm as the opening film of the Salzburg Mountain Film Festival, showcasing the dedication and heroism of these extraordinary communities.
