11 April: Agorá: “The Riddles of TURANDOT. A Chinese Princess in Literature and on the Musical Stage”
The lecture initially follows the origin of the story of the proud Chinese princess and deals with the traditional name forms. The main part addresses the reception of the material in European literature (drama by Gozzi, translation by Schiller) and the variants of its musical setting. In addition to the operas by Ferruccio Busoni and Giacomo Puccini, there is also stage music by Carl Maria von Weber and a ballet composed by Gottfried von Einem.

The Paris Lodron University Salzburg, together with the Bowling Green State University, Ohio, has organized the annual Austrian Studies Association Conference in the USA from 11 to 14 April, 2019.
This year’s conference hosts are Bowling Green State University and the University of Salzburg. They celebrate their 50-year partnership.
