Marine Biological Excursion to Croatia 2016

The excursion was conducted by Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Sabine Agatha together with the lecturer M.Sc. Harald Ficker (Institute for Limnology, Mondsee) and the tutors B.Sc. Maximilian Ganser and B.Sc. Philipp Wenta. Besides course units in the Institute Ruđer Bošković in Rovinj to study planktonic organisms by light microscopy and sediment dwelling organisms obtained by dredging, several field trips to spots along the sea coast and some islands were performed. Snorkelling enabled the students to make detailed life observations and to apply their knowledge acquired in the theoretical course units. Additionally, the students learned to identify a wide variety of marine organisms and to classify them, using morphological and anatomical characters and findings of molecular phylogenies. During the course, students and teachers had a lot of fun, especially during a trip into the Limski Fjord.
