Into the Streets: Training Early Stage Researchers in Participatory Methods, Public Sociology and Community Development

 Dr. Dolgon, a trained sociologist from the Stonehill College near Boston, USA, was Fulbright Guest Professor at the University of Salzburg in 2018. In April 2019, Dr. Dolgon got elected President of the meritorious US-based Society for the Study of Social Problems (2019-2021). He has a long history of teaching and training students in applied and collaborative research methods. He has written widely on various forms of public sociology and the politics of engaged research and teaching. He also has experience in Austria and understands the regional history and issues of poverty, ethnicity, and efforts at community development. In particular, Dr. Dolgon’s CV lists numerous institutions in the United States, Ireland, Austria and elsewhere which have sought his expertise in course design, methods workshops and training, various other aspects of public research and the integration of theory and practice.
Now, Dr. Dolgon is back to Salzburg as a guest lecturer at the Department of Educational Science. The current event within the public Seminar Series “Kolloquium Erziehungswissenschaft” is connected to preparations for the first “Action Research Summer Camp” with him in 2020, which is co-organized by Dr. Eberhard Raithelhuber from the Department. This establishment of a new, attractive training scheme and curriculum for early-stage researchers will be achieved through the delivery of a unique workshop at a retreat in Austria, lasting 7 days, in June 2020.
