Foreign corporations and Ukrainian agro-holdings are currently seizing massive amounts of Ukraine’s agricultural land. Since this trend does not involve the displacement of the rural population or directly endanger their subsistence, and gives at least the impression of offering inclusive terms, it is hard to see much evidence of local resistance. But the phenomenon represents a disturbing case of controlling, capturing and concentrating decisions regarding Ukraine’s land use and agricultural model in few private hands.
The presentation discusses the development of agrofuel politics in the European Union and their implications on the agrofuels project in Ukraine.
Dr. Christina Plank studierte International Cultural and Business Studies an der Universität Passau und der Staatsuniversität in St. Petersburg. 2016 promovierte sie mit Auszeichnung zu dem Thema ‚The Oligarchic State: the Agrofuels Project in Ukraine‘.
Seit Juli 2017 ist sie Post-Doc am Institut für Soziale Ökologie an der Universität für Bodenkultur Wien. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte mit geographischem Fokus auf Mittel- und Osteuropa liegen in den Bereichen Politische Ökologie, Staatstheorie sowie sozial-ökologischer Transformation.
