FIRST PLACE FOR POSTER AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

First place for poster at international meeting for Maximilian Ganser (AG Agatha)

At the 40th annual meeting of the German Society of Protozoology, which was held online due to Corona, students of the Research Group Agatha presented their results in the form of a talk and two posters.

Of the 24 posters submitted, the one by Maximilian Ganser entitled “DeSignate: detecting signature characters in gene sequence alignments for taxon diagnoses” was awarded first prize.

In his presentation, Maximilian Ganser presented metabarcoding results from an Austrian-Chinese research project (FWF project I3268) dealing with the diversity and biogeography of marine planktonic ciliates (“Genetic diversity in marine planktonic ciliates (Ciliophora, Alveolata) suggests distinct geographical patterns – data from Chinese and European coastal waters”). Finally, the poster of bachelor student Michael Kirschner presented transmission electron microscopy data on the ultrastructure of extrusomes (mini-harpoons) in a marine planktonic ciliate and the taxonomic-systematic significance of these cell organelles (“Let the weapons speak: extrusome features contribute to a revision of genus Strombidium (Alveolata, Ciliophora, Spirotricha)”).

CONGRATULATIONS!
