Athlete trained at the Olympic Centre and PLUS student wins gold in cross-country skiing sprint at the Paralympics

Following the six medals for the Olympic Centre Salzburg (OZ) at the Olympic Games in Beijing, Paralympic athlete Carina Edlinger has now also won a medal for the OZ and the PLUS.

The Olympic Centre is run jointly by the State of Salzburg and Paris Lodron University Salzburg as part of the Department of Sport and Kinesiology. Carina Edlinger, who is visually impaired, has been supported by the OZ coaching team since 2017 and won a bronze medal at the 2018 Paralympics. In Beijing, she claimed gold in the cross-country skiing sprint.

During the months of preparation, Carina has been a regular visitor to the laboratories of the Department of Sport and Kinesiology. “Especially in disabled sports, high-quality diagnosis and feedback systems can contribute a great deal to performance development. Any limitations in perception can be compensated for in this way. Device-supported feedback is scientifically proven to help increase and fully utilise performance potential. Our laboratories here offer optimal conditions,” says Gerald Bauer, sports scientist and coach to Carina Edlinger.

Carina not only spends time in the PLUS laboratories, but also in the lecture halls as a student. She is completing a course in sports journalism at the Department of Sport Science and Kinesiology.
