Abstract:
Biodiversity is declining due to habitat loss and the reduction of habitat quality. Recent studies have shown that species with specific habitat demands are suffering particularly under this negative trend, even inside of nature reserves. In my talk I will focus on (i) temporal shifts in insect species richness, (ii) changes in relative abundance of butterfly species, and (iii) species community shifts across time. I will discuss potential drivers leading to this negative trend, such as landscape homogenization, drifting pesticides and nitrogen deposition, as well as climate change. Examples will be based on species communities, population structures and the intraspecific level.
