Hans Stegbuchner Award Ceremony 2016

On 19 January 2017, the Hans Stegbuchner Prize was awarded during a ceremony at the Department of Mathematics.The 2016 Hans Stegbuchner Prize for dissertations was awarded to:

• Alexander Hermann Bors, MSc, for his thesis supervised by Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr Peter Hellekalek with the title „Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods Theory and Applications“
• Dr. Thomas Singer, for his thesis supervised by Prof. Dr Verena Bögelein with the title „Evolutionsgleichungen mit p,q-Wachstum“

The Hans Stegbuchner Prize 2016 for diploma theses was awarded to:

• Mag. Martin Huemer, for his thesis supervised by Prof. Dr Arne Bathke with the title„Bayes-Statistik und Markov-Netzwerke und deren Einsatz in der digitalen Bildanalyse“
• Mag. Robert Hemetsberger, for his thesis supervised by Assistant Professor Dr Volker Ziegler with the title „Die Mathematik der Knoten – das Jones-Polynom“

With their short presentations, the prizewinners convinced the large audience of the remarkable quality of their work.Afterwards, Vice-Rector Ao. Prof. Dr Rudolf Feik, the Head of the Department of Mathematics, Prof. Dr Andreas Schröder, who hosted the ceremony, and Director Thomas Nussbaumer from the Raiffeisenverband Salzburg officially awarded this year’s Hans Stegbuchner Prize.Doris Stegbuchner, the wife of Dr Hans Stegbuchner, also congratulated the award winners on their outstanding achievements.The very enjoyable and successful ceremony ended with a small buffet in the foyer of the Department of Mathematics.
