Long Night of Research 2022
“Mathematics is more than just numbers! Get to know important concepts of graph theory and geometry by making, painting and experimenting. For example, test the four-color theorem in a puzzle game. Or do you know what a geodesic is? Find out in a playful way by searching for the shortest path on a surface!” This is the slogan of the mathematics stand for the Long Night of Research.
Because on Friday 20.05.2022 it was time again: The Long Night of Research took place and of course the Department of Mathematics was also represented with an information stand. With puzzles such as: “Who can find the longest number snake”, interested people lingered to puzzle. According to Dr. Daniel Krenn from the Discrete Mathematics working group, who helped organize the event alongside Assoc. Prof. Volker Ziegler and MSc. Ingrid Vukusic, showed great commitment, “there were numerous visitors to the mathematics stand throughout and the atmosphere was great!” The StV was also there with many motivated helpers. The organizer estimates the number of visitors on this evening, which was well attended from 17:00-23:00, at around 1500 participants, and it was a great platform for the Department of Mathematics to introduce itself and present current research content.
