25 Year Anniversary of the Language Centre

On 23rd May 2024, we hosted a series of events to mark our 25th anniversary. We were particularly pleased to welcome numerous partners and language enthusiasts to our celebrations.

They began with a Language Meetup at  the Unipark. In keeping with the anniversary language enthusiasts discussed the topic of “celebrating festivals” at seven language tables. This third PLUS language Meetup once again provided interesting insights and many inspiring discussions in several languages.

The next item on the program was two  teacher training courses: Christian Olivier (University of La Réunion) introduced participants to the topic of “Combining digital citizenship education and foreign language teaching with real-world tasks”. Gregor Chudoba (University of Klagenfurt) imparted knowledge and exercises on the topic of “Small drama pedagogical forms for language teaching” in his workshop.

The highlight was the subsequent ceremony, to which (former) teachers and employees of the Language Center and the PLUS, cooperation partners and associates  of the Language Centre were invited. The BMBWF ( Federal Ministry of  Education Science and Research) was represented by Ministerial Counsellor Rita Neyer.  The ceremony was opened by the Managing Rector and Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies, Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Maritin Weichbold. The staff of the Language Centre gave an insight into the history of the Language Centre as well as completed and ongoing projects. The Language Centre has been organizing the German as a second language offer of the PLUS MORE program for 9 years now. The MORE program is an initiative of Uniko for refugees and displaced persons, which aims to support them in their new start and, in particular, to offer prospects for continuing or starting to study. MORE participants Olena Charochkina, Ibrahim Khalil and former MORE tutor Vladyslav Korshenko gave insights into the program from their perspective.

At the end of the event, the celebration ended in a cozy atmosphere in the Skybar of the Unipark.

Many thanks to all those who have supported the Language Centre over the past 25 years and made the 25th anniversary celebration a special experience with their attendance.
