Through my research, I aim to gain a better understanding of natural hazards, their interactions and cascading effects, and their impacts on the environment and society. I focus on the development of remote sensing-based methods for mapping, monitoring, and characterising various natural hazards (particularly landslides) and geomorphological features, and assessing spatio-temporal landscape dynamics in an interdisciplinary manner. I am interested in how climate change and natural hazards are connected as well as the different remote sensing methods to detect them. By investigating (machine learning) models I want to further analyze natural connections between climate change and natural hazards to predict future developments and impacts. More…

Fatemeh Nooshin Nokhandan [2024]
PhD candidate at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary
My research focuses on geomorphological natural hazards in loess-covered regions. To achieve this, I use a combination of multi-criteria decision-making methods, remote sensing, and various machine-learning techniques to generate erosion susceptibility maps.

Lilia Campo [2024]
Engineering student at the National School of Geographical Sciences – Geomatics (ENSG – Géomatique), France
I aim to apply my GIS and remote sensing skills to environmentally relevant projects related to climate change.

Dr. Adolfo Quesada-Román [2024]
Professor and Researcher at University of Costa Rica
My research areas include Geomorphology, Applied Geography, natural hazard zoning, disaster risk assessment, land use change, and geoheritage studies.

Helen Dias, MSc. [2021/2022/2023]
Researcher | PhD candidate at University of São Paulo, Brazil
I have worked in Geoprocessing, Remote Sensing, and Geomorphology, focusing on Landslides. My current project is about shallow landslide inventory mapping and susceptibility assessment.

Roberto Mulero-Martinez, MSc [2021/2022]
Researcher | PhD candidate at University of Cádiz, Spain
The aim of my research is to improve and exploit remote sensing products in coastal areas for understanding the different agents involved in ocean dynamics, with a special interest in obtaining realistic surface currents and sea level variability measurements in coastal areas, using high-resolution altimetry data, land-based high-frequency radar and numerical weather prediction model such as WRF.

Bowen Gao, B.Eng. [2021/2022]
PhD candidate at Zhejiang University, China
My research focuses on a combination of remote sensing and (deep) machine learning applied to geoscience big data analysis. I am currently working on the aeolian landform mapping and modelling by integrating remote sensing and numerical simulation.
