About my research interests
My research addresses two main fields: sustainable urban mobility and glacier monitoring in the context of climate change:
I am interested in the geospatial dimensions of transportation and the implications of human mobility and accessibility for sustainable transportation and livable communities in the smart city context. My main approach to questions of mobility and sustainability is the development and application of GIS and spatial analysis techniques to extract information from mobility and geospatial data.

I have a long-standing interest in high mountain research and glacier monitoring. Glaciers are highly sensitive indicators of past and present climate change. Their current area and volume are a response to both near-term and long-term changes in both temperature and precipitation. Because glaciers are important indicators of past and future climatic changes, Z_GIS in cooperation with Government of Salzburg coordinates the LTER (Long Term Ecological Research) site Oberes Stubachtal, located in the National Park Hohe Tauern. Together with colleagues from the Austrian Academy of Sciences Innsbruck and others we collect field data, analyze and store our results in different global glacier inventory databases.
