Journal of Research on Education

The Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung (ZBF) is a scientific journal that supports evidence-based further development in the education system by taking up substantial questions in the education system, putting them up for discussion, accompanying them, testing them empirically and/or providing theoretical support. The Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung (ZBF) publishes articles in German and English. All contributions are checked in a double blind peer review process.

The journal has an interdisciplinary character. All scientific disciplines that deal with educational processes, institutions or systems are represented in it. The term “Bildung” (education) that gives it the title is understood in a broad sense as a description of the research field, but also as a target dimension that needs to be analyzed empirically, theoretically and historically. The term “Forschung” (research) is not limited to specific methodological approaches. The ZBF’s self-image is represented by a group of editors with a broad disciplinary and methodological background.

The focus of the Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung is on original empirical contributions. In addition, the ZBF also publishes educational theoretical and philosophical treatises on the principles and basic assumptions of the educational system, as well as articles that serve the methodological further development of educational research. Systematically designed review articles, registered reports and ‘think pieces’, which, through their pointed analyses, make informative contributions to the critical questioning of traditional educational myths and the limits of educational research, round off the broad spectrum. With the combination of key topics and open submissions, the journal offers both connection to current national and international discourses and a forum for divergent individual contributions.

The Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung was founded in 2010 by the “Österreichische Gesellschaft für Forschung und Entwicklung im Bildungswesen (ÖFEB)” to promote empirical educational research and has been published by it ever since. The Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung (ZBF) / Journal of Research on Education is a scholarly scientific journal that aims to provide a foundation for evidence-based advancement in educational systems by addressing substantive issues in education and presenting them for discussion, guidance, empirical testing, and/or theoretical validation. ZBF publishes papers in both German and English.
