Short resume

Mmag. Dr. Petra Siwek-Marcon studied psychology and educational science at the University of Salzburg. After several stays abroad in Australia, France, Spain, and Italy, she returned to the University of Salzburg in 2010, initially working as an external lecturer. In 2013, she became a Senior Lecturer at the School of Education, where she contributed to shaping educational science teaching with a focus on psychological-pedagogical topics. In 2020, she earned her doctorate with distinction, researching teachers’ motivational structures and their role in classroom management and relationships with students. Since 2022, she has been working as a Senior Scientist in the role of Scientific Director of the School of Education. In addition, Petra Siwek-Marcon is a registered clinical psychologist and health psychologist, and she holds the role of Internationalization Officer and Erasmus+ Coordinator for the teaching profession at the University of Salzburg (for more information see Teaching abroad).

Awards: Winner of the Ars Docendi Recognition Award for Excellence in Austrian University Teaching 2022, awarded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research; winner of the Distance Teaching Award of the University of Salzburg for the academic year 2020/21; student awards for outstanding digital teaching in the teaching profession 2020 and 2021

Main research and work interests:

  • Constructive and relationship-oriented classroom management and lesson design (including a research and consultancy project on classroom management 2017-2019 as part of the dissertation project)
  • Positive shaping of the relationship between teachers and learners
  • Dealing with behavioral problems and psychological stress in schools and lessons
  • Internationalization in teacher training courses
  • Systemic positioning of the teaching profession and quality assurance in teacher training programs
