General information on funding scholarships

Scholarships are used to promote scientific work by students of degree programmes at universities. Funding is available for diploma or master’s theses and dissertations that have not yet been completed and is intended to cover the costs incurred in writing a scientific paper. Such costs are, for example, a research stay abroad required for the scientific work, the purchase of research literature, costs incurred for literature research, material and copying costs, costs for binding the scientific work, etc. IT purchases (e.g. hardware) and living expenses are not funded!

The award of a scholarship is linked to the fulfilment of the following requirements:

a) Compliance with the duration of the entitlement (§ 18 StudFG), taking into account any important reasons (§ 19 StudFG); a copy of the current student record sheet must be submitted.
b) Austrian citizenship or equal treatment within the meaning of § 4 StudFG.

The standard duration of study is always calculated according to the standard period of study provided for in a period of study (in the Master’s and Doctoral programmes in the entire degree programme) plus one tolerance semester. According to § 19 StudFG, an extension of the entitlement period can be applied for for important reasons (e.g. semester abroad, birth and upbringing of a child). The award is made within the framework of the private sector administration. There are two application deadlines in each academic year.
