Ecumenical Theology

Ecumenical theology deals with the problem of divided churches. In the practical interest of a lived unity of all Christians, it confronts the history of church divisions and reflects on the theological confessional differences. With the methodological perspective of a differentiated consensus, the subject of ecumenical theology seeks ways to mediate the ecclesiastical, theological and spiritual identities of the confessions with one another.

In practical terms, this means ecumenical theology also touches on issues like how churches can cooperate on social and ethical matters, share in liturgical life, and perhaps even work towards reconciliation of doctrinal divides. The goal is unity in diversity, acknowledging the richness each tradition brings to the broader Christian family.
