A major industrial application of nanomaterial is as nanoagrochemicals in agriculture. These include both nanofertilizers as well as nanopesticides and are both used to enhance agricultural yield. A well know example of a nanopesticide are copper based nanoparticles which are used to protect crops from infestation by among others mildew and other fungal and bacterial pests. A major potential environmental advantage of using nanopesticides over conventional pesticide lies in the possible reduction of the amount of active ingredients required for effective pest control. Nanofertilizers are often used to deliver macro and micro nutrients to crops in order to improve plant growth.
